Lyrics

RENO

I was always the quiet one. Never had too much to say.
Ma would worry that I wasn’t happy, but really I was in my own way.
I moved out west when I was 21 and started work with my hands.
I just wanted a life free from the noise, from all the demands.

In time I found my own piece of heaven and planned to live out my days in the light.
Now it seems that God has other intentions. That damn fourth stage… is one hell of a fight.

Take me back to Reno, to those beautiful western skies.
I’m tired of fighting but I don’t want to die. It’s out of my hands now, I realize.
I want to see the desert one more time, to see that blue flax roll.
So take me back to Reno. Bring me home... before I go home.

My mind is runnin’ through memories. Good and bad, but mostly good.
My family on the lake and workin’ with my friends. Those NASCAR days… I’d be there if I could.
But my brother’s faces, they say it all, as they watch me fading away.
I want to tell them that it’s been a great one, but the words… well, there’s too much to say.

It’s hard to stop bein’ angry about it, and I know there are things I should plan.
Hopin’ for a miracle, but inside I doubt it. Why me, why now… I just wanna understand.

So take me back to Reno. I’ll grab a beer with my old friend Don.
It seems a million miles away from me now, but I can see it – see it plain as the dawn.
I can see the way the sun hits low , and the colors go on and on.
Take me back to Reno. Take me home, so I can go home.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda… doesn’t really matter now.
Maybe it’s just my time to leave.
I know there’s something better waitin’ around the bend.
She’s there for me - I just gotta believe.

So take me back to Reno.
Blast a race on the radio.
Kick some dust up in my favorite ride.
Go out with a bang, if I’ve gotta go.
Tell the ones I love I’ll meet them there.
With a smile and a cold one to share.
So take me back to Reno.
Take me home, it’s time to go home.
Home… yeah… it’s time to go home.
